Leaders should be profilers too!

My family and I have been watching a lot of the show Criminal Minds lately. We DVR it on every channel that the show appears.We just love it.

On the show there is a group of behavior analysis profilers who watch and study the behavior of previous criminals in order to better understand today's crime committing persons in hopes to be one step ahead of their game. Leaders need to do the same.

Leaders need to profile and study the behavior of their target audience and those who follow them.

Target audience:

Most companies and organizations already do this by studying those who purchase their products. Cosmetologists study make up consumers to find out about their make up routine and needs. Software companies study their consumers biggest challenges and needs as well. The church can also profile the behavior of its congregation and those they are trying to attract.

Right now social networking is popular among younger crowds, so if your target audience is younger than 40 maybe you should look into technology and social networking as a way to reach your demographic. One church in particular posts questions daily on a social networking site about the message that week. You would be amazed at home many people participate in the online discussion on that networking site.

Followers:


Leaders also need to profile their followers. In order to best lead them, they need to understand their personality, what makes them tick, their goals, their passions, and their love language. Not only will this help communication between the leader and the follower, because now the leader can accurately speak their follower's language, but this can also show the leader how to best applaud their follower when they have done something right, and correct them when they have done something wrong.

How?

So how do leaders become better behavioral profilers? Studying. Personality studies, love language studies, focus groups, and one on one interviews can help better understand those leaders are trying to reach. Whether its their target audience of the followers they are leading, they need to have the edge to be able to stand out in today's society.
